Spring Arrival 2023!!! (Delayed)

After a record snowfall, we hadn’t anticipated we would be accessing Akehurst until mid-June at best. But the provincial government decided to replace the bridge at KM 10, thus closing the road for the month of June anyway.

Meh – sucks, but with so much snow it really just helped reduce the FOMO of not being at our beloved wilderness getaway.

Well, dang if it didn’t get ridiculously hot ridiculously early for a ridiculously long time!! We had a far east coast freezing adventure in Newfoundland the last 2 weeks of May which took the edge off, but coming back June 2nd to continued scorching weather made it difficult to accept having to stay away.

We occupied ourselves with work around the O-Kay Acres and a few trips to our place in Valemount to get the bike store ready for the season, make social appearances, enjoy the local brews & cuisine, and ride bikes, of course!

Then there was that one sunshiney Saturday, the day after we had returned from Newfoundland; 2 days into the Darlington FSR closure, we couldn’t resist taking a late afternoon zip up to see our little piece of paradise. The road was still closed for construction so we tried a new adventure and took the Boulder Mountain Rd.

It was only an extra 1/2 hour or so than we are used to and we saw lots of bears, so I’d say it was an all-around great detour!

And the resort. Was. STUNNING!!!! Good lord, it took my breath away (but when doesn’t it? LOL!) The weather was perfect, the lake was calm and the loons were looning. Ahhhhhh!

I tried to convince John I could make a decent meal out of the dry goods and once-frozen canned items we had up there so we *could* reasonably stay the night. Denied!! Dangit!

Ah, well – until next time……
